Chicago Chapter Mentoring Program

Program Background:

The mentoring program is geared towards students or non-experienced professionals looking to expand their knowledge in Packaging. The goal of the program is to match the student or non-experienced professional with one or two Mentors that can help give advice for development towards their short and long term professional goals.

Who Can Request a Mentor?

Students

A student who wants to get involved in the field of Packaging is more then welcome to use the mentor program.  A student has to be at least a junior in high school.

Non-Experienced Professional

A non-experienced professional is someone with less then 5 years experience in a certain field.  The professional can request a mentor in a field they are interested in, but may not have the experience in it.  For example a corrugated designer with 15 years experience might be interested in plastics, but have no relevant background in it.  They can request a mentor within the plastics field to learn more about it.

Who are the Mentors? (Click to the left)

Last Update - December 2006

The Mentors are packaging professionals with at least 5 years of experience in their current packaging profession.  The Mentors are volunteering their time once a quarter to meet with the student or non-experienced professional to discuss their career development and professional goals.

How do you select a Mentor?

To select a Mentor you need to review the list provided in above link.  Once you have found 1 or 2 Mentors that fit your requirements contact the Chicago Chapter Mentoring Chair and request the mentor.  Once you have selected a Mentor you need to forward a copy of your resume and a brief statement as to why you selected that Mentor to the Chicago Chapter Mentoring Chair.  The Mentoring Chair will contact the Mentor of your choice and notify them of your interest.  The Mentor will contact the student or non-experienced professional to set up the first mentoring meeting.

How often do you meet?

The Packaging Professional and Mentor should try to meet at least once a quarter.  The Packaging Professional is responsible for setting up follow up meetings.

Who is the current Chicago Chapter Mentoring Chair?

You can reach the Mentoring Chair via email at mentoring@ioppchi.org .
